Mae is in the studio with the young teen Abby Allen, her father Rob Allen and Sacramento Fire Dept. Fire Chief Walt Allen talking about autism awareness. Abby's 13-year-old brother Blake was diagnosed with autism when he was three-years-old.
Abby researched and found that according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 1 in 68 children in the US has an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). To pay for autism services, US citizens annually pay $236-262 billion (Buescher et al., 2014). To educate a student with autism, it costs more than $8,600 extra per year.
In order to raise awareness Abby is using nail polish of the color blue (autism awareness color). Check out her GoFundMe to find out how you can help.
